If you're not fussed about decor this is a great hotel, excellent location.

Attic restaurant near the top of the ramblas is excellent.

especially in the room (213) was a bit high.
At breakfast the tables were not laid.

The Head Receptionist was very rude when I arrived with my daughters, he clearly wasnt happy that I'd not booked through the hotel, he gave us dreadful rooms , no a/c, view from the window a wall and an internal lobby , no air , very gloomy , would never go again if you paid me.

The Gran Via Hotel is in a great location. We did expect a better room for the price we paid, and thought it was very expensive for what we got, basic and a cot bed for 3rd person. we didn't get room on high floor - got level one at the front of hotel which was noisy. You could hear the chamber staff talking from the laundry room across the hall and the people in next room arguing, so that did spoil the 2 nights we spent at this hotel. The main lobby, restaurant, lounge and patio area are fantastic and retain what must have been a beautiful house at one time.
Top Tip
Barcelona has everything to see and do. Tablao Flamenco Cordobes in the Rambla for buffet dinner and flamenco show is a must, brilliant to see and the decoration is in Alhambra style in the building. Be careful at night on the Rambla as you do have pickpockets who pretend to be drunk and they work in twos, one to pick the mans pocket and the other to grab the womans bag we saw it happen. Get from the Tourist Information Office a Barcelona Card which you put money on and you can use this in all shops and places without taking your wallet or handbag out, brilliant idea for tourists. The Palau de Musica you need to book in advance to take a tour of the building the glass ceiling is beautiful.

Be careful of the con artist ex: taxi drivers and restuarant owners.
Top Tip
Taxi driver who over charge for the fare from hotel to airport which the hotel staff had called for their service.

Large Quad room at front of hotel. Traffic was noisy outside. We had asked for a room at back of hotel, but didn't get one, maybe because hotel was pretty full. Bathroom was like a water theme park with all singing and dancing type shower unit!!
Can walk to most central locations and tourist bus, ATM cash machines, metro etc all within a few metres of hotel. Brilliant location.
Take a travel kettle and an adaptor plug if you want tea or coffee in your room though.
Free use of computer in large lounge is available, but connection is slow but fine for checking/sending occasional e mails.
Top Tip
Try Prims restaurant for pizzas, pasta etc just two doors away from hotel (closed sundays and possibly mondays?), about 7 euros for main courses.

Due to industrial action at BCN we arrived at the hotel at 4:30am having been diverted and bussed in from Perpignan. No critical evaluation would be fair.
Top Tip
Hey Barcelona is alive at 0430 on a summer Saturday morning after a Friday night. Join the party!
